Grover Farms

The Full Story

Grover Farms is a second-generation family farm, mainly operated by Adam Grover. Grover cares for a variety of animals from mules to chickens, specializing in cattle and hogs. He is one of the many local farmers in Morrowville, Kansas. Grover's cattle range from baby calves all the way up to his quality herd of Angus cows. He purchases semi loads of little calves from West Virginia and raises them on his farm as standard Kansas beef. Grover often allows his nieces and nephews to purchase some of the new incoming calves so that they can share the joy of raising their own cattle and learn new skills along the way. His nephews, Jacob and Kale often help him a great deal around the farm. The cattle are raised on grass or a grade, hay-grain mixture until they reach an ideal weight of 800-1400 lbs.

As for Grover's hogs, they are either bought as little piglets or are born to his own sows in his farrowing house. Either way, the young piglets are kept inside the farrowing house with warm straw bedding. On Sunday family dinners, Grover's nieces and nephews clean out the farrowing house and throw out fresh straw for any piglets inside. When the piglets are a few months old, they head to the outside pen where they get to roll around in the dirt and are on full-feed. During the summer months, the pigs are allowed into grassy pens to eat. Once the pigs reach the ideal weight they are sold for meat or kept back are breeding gilts.

Grover's animals are fed quality feed, rotate pens constantly to maintain the premium condition, and best of all, have a flavor that is unmatchable. Buy local from the farmer who works hard for his animals, so that his animals can provide for you.
